My PS was very strict about me resuming sex and taking it easy when doing so (at least 6 weeks). Remember, sex (can) be very rough on the breasts – especially jolting the implants (…) I am a jogger, too, and had to wait longer than 4 weeks to resume that.

All of these restrictions did not bother me, though, because I waited over 20 years for these babies!!!! I am 9 months post-op and took my time getting back into my normal, active lifestyle. My breast implants have been the best decision I ever made for myself. My sex life with my husband has always been amazing, but now I'm more confident and don't cover my chest with my arms anymore!!!!

(…) I think when the mood hits you, go for it. You don't have to be all bouncing around and crazy! In fact, you don't even have to move to please and be pleased. Gee, I didn't even wait 6 weeks after having a baby and that was a vaginal birth.

Oh, I guess I should say follow your PS's recommendation, but that just seems ridiculous. Anyway, sex has been okay. Not necessarily any different. I do feel sexier in some ways. But since I can feel the implant under my tissue, similar issues are present for me during sex.

I still have some doubt in my mind when DH feels my breasts. Before, it was due to a lack of tissue or saggy tissue. Now, it's due to implant(s). Bottom line is that sexiness and pleasure come from the brain. Our breasts can be a tool for that, but changing my breasts did not change my sex life.?

My PS allowed sexual activity when I felt my body was ready but said to keep in mind that he didn't want me straining or doing any aerobic activity for at least 3 weeks and to apply that same concept during sex (…) for me personally, we waited ‘til 5 days post op and just fooled around a bit – then had sex at about 2 weeks post op.

I would love to hear some stories on this – or information. My husband and I are going crazy. He takes one look at my new boobs and goes crazy (lol) and now that my mood is lifting I’m thinking I will be ready soon, too. But my doctor said no sex until after my 6 week appointment. Sadly our 11-year anniversary (was February 24th, but we could) get dressed up and go out for a nice dinner and drinks.

…I didn't specifically ask my PS this question because I was a little embarrassed. But, she said I could start walking and riding a recumbent bike at 1 week, as tolerated. She said I could strap on two snug sports bras and start running a couple of laps at 2 weeks, as tolerated; she said I wouldn’t likely be able to run more than that.

So, in my mind, I thought: "Maybe if I strap two snug fit sports bras on at 2 weeks for sex...." (LOL), but that defeats the whole purpose of having them if they are hidden!!! I just don't think I will be able to stand the movement for a while, but I am hoping to hear from others that it’s possible sooner rather than later – I am going to miss that intimacy!

To which Julie64 responded:

You are so lucky…your PS is so much more relaxed about exercise than mine. I am a runner and not running is making me a cranky girl (…) my PS (says) resume sex when comfortable, so I guess he is not as conservative on the sex issue! LOL

Before Taking Your Breast Implants to Bed…

Before taking your breast implants to bed, there are a few things you should know.

As the women above point out, plastic surgeons have their own concerns about sex and your new breast. What are they? Potential jostling, up/down and back/forth movement, strenuous activity – and that’s just the short list!

How quickly you heal can be influenced by:
  • How closely you follow post-op instructions
  • Breast implant/incision shape, size & type
  • Existing medical or health problems
  • Your overall general health
  • Your lifestyle & routine
  • Age & other factors
Proper recovery will help you reach your most intimate goals, but what’s right for one woman may not be right for you. Ask your plastic surgeon for individually-tailored suggestions…and make taking your breast implants to bed as much fun as possible!

Please help ImplantInfo support breast cancer research through the Cristine Meredith Miele Foundation, set up in loving memory of Cristine “Crissy” Miele. Crissy was a loving wife and mother and dedicated member of the ImplantInfo family who lost her battle with breast cancer in July 2010.

Your donations support Dr. Kenneth Offit and his research team. They are focusing genetic testing on families, like Crissy’s, where breast cancer is hereditary and develops from a yet unidentified gene mutation. Advances can improve early detection and help future generations, including Crissy’s daughters.

No donation is too small, and your support means the world. Please help us continue Crissy’s courageous fight.
